Ms. Darlene Vanessa Brown, 70, of Jacksonville, Florida, received her wings on August 6, 2026. Born on December 31, 1955, in Norfolk, Virginia, to the late Reverend John and Ethel Speller, she was the fourth of nine children. She was preceded in death by her siblings Calvin Speller, Sharrion Horton, Esther Smith, and Bobby Speller.

Raised in Chesapeake, Virginia, Darlene graduated as Valedictorian from Deep Creek High School and remained committed to lifelong learning. She worked in nursing, education, and other roles throughout her career while supporting her family as a devoted Navy wife.

A faithful Christian, loving mother, published poet, and gifted writer, Darlene touched countless lives through her kindness, generosity, faith, and unwavering love. She found joy in spending time with family, traveling, reading, cooking, decorating, drawing, listening to music, helping others, and embracing life's many blessings.

She leaves to cherish her memory her children, April J. Brown (Anthony), SaVeene D. Brown (Millicent), and Stephenie S. Brown; grandchildren Briana Brown, Tres Williams, Xavier Wright, and Mone’t Johnson, Queen Towns, Maria Towns, Sarah Towns; siblings John Sharp, John F. Speller, Renee Dumpson, Ronald Speller, and John Speller III; her aunt Betty Longshore; and a host of beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

Darlene's life was a blessing to all who knew her. Her love, laughter, faith, and beautiful spirit will forever live in the hearts of those she touched.
