It is with a profound sense of loss and heartfelt reverence that we announce the passing of Harold Chalmers Samms Jr., a man whose life was distinguished by dedication, resilience, and a quiet fondness for the simpler joys in life. Born on March 25, 1953, in Jacksonville, Florida, Harold's journey came to a peaceful close on April 14, 2026, in his beloved hometown.
Harold’s story is one woven with honor and service. A retired United States Navy E6, he served his country with unwavering commitment, embodying the virtues of duty and discipline. His years in the Navy were marked by steadfast dedication to those ideals, leaving a legacy of respect and admiration among those who knew his story.
Beyond his military accomplishments, Harold found solace and happiness in moments of relaxation, often enjoying the comfort of watching movies—a pastime that revealed a gentler side to a man who had faced life’s challenges with quiet strength.
Harold was a cherished member of his family, survived by his devoted son, Harold Samms III, and his beloved daughter, Luvenia Exson. Their lives were undoubtedly enriched by his presence and the values he imparted. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jaceta Samms, who passed away earlier this year on January 6, 2026.
A viewing to honor and remember Harold will be held at Weston's Mortuary, located at 3027 Myrtle Ave N, Jacksonville, FL 32209, on April 27, 2026, from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM.
