JAMES
RAPLEY II
January 12, 1944 – June 4, 2026
Jacksonville National Cemetery
1:00 - 1:30 pm (Eastern time)
James Carlos Rapley II, born January 12, 1944, in Jacksonville, Florida, was a brilliant, independent, curious, and unforgettable man. Raised primarily by his beloved grandmother, whom he called “Mommy,” James came of age during the Civil Rights Movement and participated in peaceful efforts to challenge segregation in his community.
He served as a Technical Sergeant in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam era and later built a career in computers and technology, becoming a partner at Iscomp Systems. James loved reading, science fiction, food, computers, and conversation. He had a powerful mind, a strong opinion on nearly everything, and a gift for turning even a simple answer into a story worth remembering.
He was the father of James, Nick, and Alicia, and the grandfather of James Rapley IV, Chloe, Leah, and Quintin. His family will remember his intelligence, humor, courage, independence, and many sayings, especially his reminder that “worry is a debt paid to disaster before it is due.” James Carlos Rapley II was entirely himself, and he will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and quoted often.
